1) "Miss. Scarlet, Miss Scarlet!"
Yes, Gone With The Wind. America's favorite movie that hits the
heart of America. This extremely excellent movie was based on
the novel by Margret Mitchell in 1936. It took her 10 years to write!
That is a long time! Selenick purchased the rights to the book to make
the movie for only $50,000. They asked Margret if she wanted to help
advise with the move, she simply refused. This amazing cast includes the
great Clark Gable and Vivian Leigh with the supporting cast of Hattie McDaniel,
Butterfly McQueen, Olivia DeHavilland, and Leslie Howard as Ashley.
This
motion picture has many many academy awards (Oscars). Best
Picture: David O. Selznick. Best Director: Victor Flemming. Best
Actress: Vivian Leigh. Best Supporting Actress: Hattie Mc Daniel, the
first black to attend the awards and the first black to win an Oscar. Best
Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Art Direction.
Sadly, they didn't recieve the award for Best Actor (Clark Gable was
nominated but Robert Donet starring in Goodbye Mr. Chips, won).
This motion picture has been honored by many, especially by the National
Film Registry. They selected this movie to be preserved. It also
was the first movie ever to be shot in technicolor. This movie is still
the most grossing film in american history! It still has not been beat in
the box office. The production budget was $3.9 Million and the Actual
domestic amount was $198,676,459 and the foreign was $400,000,000 PLUS.
This is just truly an amazing film and will be watched for ages to
come.
2) The site that I used for the summery is: http://www.filmsite.org/gone.html
This site basically gives us a summary of the
film and what important historical things happened. Gone With The Wind is
considered the most beloved film of all time. The film
was originally rough-cut at 6 hours in length! It was
challenging to make due to the controversial subject matter including rape,
drunkenness, moral dissipation, and adultery, and it's extraordinary
qualities with more than 50 speaking roles and 2,400 extras. There were
many things cut out of the movie especially anything that mentioned the KKK.
There was a massive search for the actress to play Scarlet.
There were about 30 actresses considered but they took the girl from over
the pond named Vivian Leigh, which portrayed scarlet beautifully.
This amazing film has touched the hearts of young and old from the past
to the present and beyond. And "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!".
3) This article relates to the screening because it gives
a greater look into the film by breaking down important parts from the movie.
It also shows the important historical events happening throughout the
film. Also discusses the ending when Clark Gable says frankly my dear I
don't give a damn and how at first the
Catholic Legency of Decency did not allow that ending but
in the end they allowed it.
4) This motion picture has been deemed Americas beloved
classic film. Gone With The Wind on rottentomatos.com has
been given a 95% approval rating from critics and a 91% approval rating with
audiences. This is the most approval rating on this site that I have
seen! One critic said that this movie defines Hollywood. Anyone
watching this film can see themselves being captivated by the beauty of Scarlet
and can have the feeling of them actually living with these people, like you
are apart of the film. This film takes place in a time when our country was
divided and tells the story of a group of people that lived in the south and
called the north a bunch of dirty yankees. In my opinion, this movie is
the best American made film that will ever be made. I think I should
start writing Gone With The Wind II.
